I was introduced to mountain bike racing by my father who still races today. My first race was in California when I was ten in the Shimano Youth Cup Series at Wilder Ranch. Soon after, I moved to Austin, Texas where I began racing frequently at the TMBRA fall and spring series. To gain a leg up on the competition, I purchased a road bike when I was 13 just for training purposes.  Due to my mountain bike background, I was hesitant to race on the road because of the mountain bike/roadie rivalry. After participating in multiple road races and criteriums, I found that I had a true passion for the dynamics of road racing. I tried to split my time evenly between mountain bike racing and road racing, but realized I could form a more successful career on the road. So I chose to put mountain biking on the back burners as well as all the other sports I played growing up through high school, such as baseball, football, golf, basketball, and track and field.
